Originally built by the Swedes for the trade of gold and timber, the Cape Coast Castle is one of the many castles built by the early Europeans on the coast of West Africa.

It was later used by the colonial masters for the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

The castle held slaves for some time before they were sold and shipped to the Americas and the Caribbean Islands.

The “Gate of No Return” was the last point for the slaves before they crossed the Atlantic Ocean.
