Brong Ahafo Region

Welcome To The Center of Culture. The Ashanti Region is the cultural heartbeat of Ghana. The Land of the Golden Stool expressed in its language, rites of passage, festivals and cuisine. The Asante King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II rules over the scenic, hilly capital and vast tropical rainforest of the city of Kumasi.

Experience this exciting colourful world of hearty hardworking people, who plough the

gold-rich soils of Obuasi (50km south-west of Kumasi). Throughout the Region, you will find welcoming hotels and restaurants with raving nightlife and entertainments at its best.

Brong Ahafo, also known as Ghana’s breadbasket, is the country’s largest agricultural region, with a large acreage of food crops and cocoa plantations, as well as an extensive forest reserve and wildlife attractions.

The Brong Ahafo Region was established in 1958 and named after the dominant indigenous peoples, the Akans Brong and Ahafo. The area, which has largely been unspoiled by industrial development, is one of the most beautiful in Ghana, with many beautiful tourist sites.

Its rivers are featured in some of the most spectacular of these tourist destinations. The Pumpum River falls 70 meters among rocky steps to form the lovely Kintampo falls, which are hidden in the woods near the Kumasi-Kintampo highway.

The Monkey Sanctuary at Fiema, 22 kilometers north of Nkoranza, is a great place to spend the day. The black silky colobus and brown mona monkeys are a sight to behold.

The people of Boabeng and Fiema regard them as sacred, and killing one is forbidden. The monkeys have free access to the entire village, and residents plant fruit trees for them. When a monkey dies, it is buried in a coffin with special funeral rites.
